Past
After my name change as part of my transition as a Non-binary person I have found that sharing previous work does not always feel right, especially when linked to my deadname. Like my existence and presentation, my art itself, how I want it to be seen, and what I want it to be connected to has undergone it’s own transition and rebirth. In the past, most of the art that I created and things I participated in were misaligned to my authentic self, in striving to make a living within the art world. I am no longer abandoning myself for my art to be witnessed and thus am highly selective of how my art is seen, when it’s seen, and what I am connected to. For those reasons, I do not disclose older exhibits, features, or works as they do not feel aligned with who I am now. In many ways, becoming who I truly am meant that despite being an artist my whole life, I am now an “emerging” artist, with a new name, and a new way of sharing my art that is authentic to me.
